Results of Solopreneur Community-Building Survey

April 17th, 2012 by Larry Keltto | Posted in Surveys

Last month I published a survey titled, “What would you want in a solopreneur group?”

The purpose of the survey was:

• To measure the amount of interest in a group

• To determine what form the community should take

• And ultimately, to decide whether it is worthwhile to commit the resources to form a group.

Below are the survey results. Twenty-two people responded (I was expecting/hoping for about 75).

I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether I should go forward with this — and how to do it.

A Solopreneur Life Survey: Do You Want To Help Build a Great Community?

March 20th, 2012 by Larry Keltto | Posted in Surveys

TheSolopreneurLife.com strives to provide resources, connections, and community to solopreneurs.

I think the site does a good job with resources and connections, but it hasn’t delivered on the community promise.

So, I have created a brief survey to find out:

1) If you want to be in community with other solopreneurs

2) What form you think the community should take

3) What you would do to make it a great community of solopreneurs

Click here to take the survey.

And please spread the word about the survey on Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Kauffman Study: Owners of 2011 Startups Preferred Solopreneurship

March 20th, 2012 by Larry Keltto | Posted in Starting Out, Surveys

The Kauffman Foundation this week released a study that says in 2011, owners of new startups preferred solo businesses.

The Kauffman Index of Entrpreneurial Activity shows that 543,000 new businesses were started per month in 2011 by new and repeat entrepreneurs, a slight decrease from 2010. This means that 0.32 percent of American adults created a business per month in 2011 — a 5.9 percent drop from 2010, but still among the highest levels of entrepreneurship over the past 16 years.

The anonymous survey, which was conducted using Survey Monkey and attracted 77 responses, consisted of 25 questions and was conducted during the first three weeks of December. Respondents were able to complete the survey only once.

Executive Summary

Here are the major takeaways from the survey.

Study: Rates of New Solopreneurship Rose in 2010, but Was It Driven By Lack of Options?

March 10th, 2011 by Larry Keltto | Posted in Surveys

The Kauffman Foundation this week released a study that shows the rate of solopreneur start-ups was up in 2010, but the report says the lack of other options may have driven the growth.

The Kauffman Index of Entrpreneurial Activity, an annual report that was started in 1996, reveals that in 2010, 565,000 new businesses were started per month by new and repeat entrepreneurs, the same rate as in 2009.

“Since it began, the recession has triggered annual declines in the rate of employer enterprise births,” said Carl Schramm, president and CEO of the Kauffman Foundation.
