Evernote For iPhone: How To Clip a Web Page

May 1st, 2011 by Larry Keltto | Posted in Evernote, Productivity, Software

This weekend, inspired by Claudine Motto’s “10 Tips On How To Use Evernote To Its Fullest” post, I was exploring Evernote for iPhone (a free app).

Using my iPhone and Safari, I wanted to learn how to “clip” Web pages to Evernote. I couldn’t find a method for clipping the entire page, but I did find an easy method for clipping/sending a Web page’s URL to Evernote:

1. As Claudine pointed out in her post, you need to know that all Evernote users have an email address assigned to their account. To find the address, go to Settings > Account Summary (Web version), or to Tools > Account Info (desktop version). You’re going to need the address later, so save it or keep it handy.

22 Great Tools To Use When Building Your Web Site

April 20th, 2011 by Larry Keltto | Posted in Software, Web Site, WordPress

Last weekend I scratched an itch and built a new Web site — a niched golf site. (I will reveal its URL at the end of this article.)

Here are the tools I used. I hope this is helpful for you! I am an affiliate for a couple of these tools, and I note which ones they are. Here’s my policy on affiliates.

Bluehost.com for hosting. I’ve had a love-hate relationship with Bluehost, but I’m sticking with them because their tech support is outstanding and because I know my way around the Bluehost user panel.

4 Apps to Consider: Gravity Forms, Goalscape, Hello Bar, reQall

March 25th, 2011 by Larry Keltto | Posted in Software

I’ve been developing a local marketing campaign for my business, and in the process I’ve found four new tools that I like. The first two have earned a place of honor on my affiliates list (see ads in the far-right sidebar). If the third and fourth tools offered affiliate programs, I would leap at them, too.

The first one is Gravity Forms, a WordPress plugin that makes it easy to add forms to any page or any post. Web-site expert Dana DiTimaso recommended Gravity Forms highly when she was on The Solopreneur Life BlogTalkRadio show, and I think the app is going to be indespensible for me.

Evernote: the Verb, the Adjective

March 4th, 2011 by Larry Keltto | Posted in Evernote, Software

If I was in charge at Merriam-Webster…

evernote, verb, \e-vər-nōt\
e•ver•note, e•ver•not•ing, e•ver•not•ed
1: the act of storing information from the Internet to a software program named Evernote : photocopy (ancient)
I will evernote this Huffington Post environmental article written by Robert Redford. I don’t have time to read it now, but I will save it with the gigs of other Huffington Post articles I’ve evernoted and never opened.

2: to store information out of fear that you might not remember it 30 seconds in the future
I won’t remember this if I don’t evernote it. Who am I kidding? I still won’t remember it.

The Solopreneur Life’s Easy Peasy Test

March 3rd, 2011 by Larry Keltto | Posted in Software

I noticed that I’ve been using “easy peasy” (it’s a technical term) a lot in product reviews, but I have not explained The Solopreneur Life’s Easy Peasy Test.

A product passes the test if:

• the user interface is intuitive

• the user interface has big text boxes and “click here” buttons

• the user-interface palette is executed well

• the design uses a generous amount of white space

• the product does what it’s supposed to do

Bonus points if the product has a clever, easy-to-remember name.

The Solopreneur Life’s Review of Headway Themes

March 3rd, 2011 by Larry Keltto | Posted in Software, WordPress

Warning: I’m an HTML/CSS/PHP hack, so if you’re a Web designer, this review holds no value for you. This is a review for people who think they can build their own Web site but who actually should hire a professional. Warning No. 2: There will be sudden outbursts throughout this review. I’m writing it on very little sleep and even less food. Kinda feels like I’m drunk and manic, which is funny because of Howard Ellison’s comment today that this Web site is “civilised, sober and tidy.”
