These Are the Results of The Solopreneur Life’s
Crowdsourced Question #1
The Solopreneur Life Crowdsourced Question (the name just rolls of the tongue!) is a new, occasional feature for The Solopreneur Life. It’s kind of the like the “Person on the Street” feature that newspapers used to publish.
I’m hedging my bets and saying “occasional.” While I think crowdsourced articles are a great idea, I think their use is going to become very popular and possibly over-used, due to the advent of a tool called BlogStampede.com. We’ll see. Plus, I don’t want to detract from the superb Q&A that Dr. Shannon Reece does on a weekly basis. She was doing this pre-BlogStampede.com, and she does a superb job.

DISC is a behavioral model based on the work of Dr. William Moulton Marston (1893–1947) to examine the behavior of individuals in their environment or within a specific situation.
I was introduced to this system recently. I haven’t studied it in great depth yet, but I plan to because I think it gives us as solopreneurs a framework for understanding ourselves, our clients, and our collaborators.
DISC also can help us:
• Identify our weaknesses
• Identify growth areas
• Identify our fears
• Explain our motivations

It’s often said that the best ideas are the ones that happen accidentally.
I’m feeling that way about The Solopreneur Life’s “Get Connected” social network.
“Get Connected” was kind of an after-thought, a value-add to the “Relationship Marketing for Solopreneurs” home-study course that I co-created with industrial psychologist Jim Sheard, Ph.D. I envisioned “Get Connected” as a simple, private discussion forum, and for many weeks I thought that’s what it would be.
But then VERY close to the “Relationship Marketing” launch date, I decided to scrap the forum. The impetus was the clunkiness of WordPress-”friendly” forum plugins. I kept thinking, “A forum shouldn’t be this difficult!”

At some point in your solopreneur life, you will confront the possibility of going into business with another person.
If you are thinking about ditching your solo business to become part of a duet, I urge you to answer the questions in this article with brutal honestly. Answering these questions could be worth thousands of dollars to you and your prospective business partner.
I was in one partnership and believe me, the early stages can be like a romance—you are lost in admiration of your partner’s abilities and you fail to see or don’t even want to consider potential problems.
